American politician.

Lee represents California’s 13th Congressional District which is most of Alameda Co. She is currently in her 12th term. While at Mills College, Lee asked Shirley Chisholm to speak during her run for the US Presidency. Thus began Barbara’s political interests, as she was appointed to be a representative to the 1972 Democratic Convention. Lee was a staff member for the US Representative Ron Dellums, served in the CA State Assembly, CA State Senate, then moved on to the US House of Representatives. Lee was the only NO vote to authorize military force against terrorists in the US House after 9/11. She felt the bill was granting overly broad powers to wage war and as a result received national attention. Lee is a liberal democrat whose concerns include gun control, the environment, education, healthcare expansion, housing and the economy.
