Ifill began her career at the New York Times covering issues on Capitol Hill. Ifill then moved to NBC as a reporter and became the first African American to host a national TV program, Washington Week in Review. From there, Gwen moved on to co-anchor and co-manage editing with Judy Woodruff on PBS News Hour. She was a political analyst and was the first black woman to moderate a US Vice Presidential debate, twice. She received many honors in her stellar career and wrote a timely book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.
