American politician, diplomat, and educator.
Born in what was then Czechoslovakia, Madeleine emigrated to the US at age 11. She grew up in Colorado, did her undergrad at Wellesley, and upon getting married moved east and continued her education while raising a family. She earned a PhD from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. During the Carter presidency she represented Brezinski as the National Security Council congressional liaison. She then moved to the Wilson Center at the Smithsonian and did research on dissident journalists and the Polish Solidarity Movement. Albright taught at Georgetown until President Clinton appointed her US Ambassador to the UN. Madeleine managed to organize the overthrow of Boutros-Boutros Ghali and have Kofi Annan assume the post of Secretary General. Albright was appointed the first female US Secretary of State in Clinton’s second term. In 2001, Madeleine founded the Albright Group later becoming the Albright Stonebridge Group, an international strategy consulting firm. She serves on many boards including the Hague Institute for Global Justice and the World Justice Project.
