An American suffragist, abolitionist, and social activist.
Elizabeth married Henry B. Stanton, cofounder of the Republican party. Elizabeth’s Declaration of Sentiments speech is credited with spurring interest in the first woman’s rights and suffrage movement in the US. After the Civil War, Susan B. Anthony and Stanton opposed the 14th and 15th amendments saying that giving black men the right to vote while not allowing white and black women to vote was not acceptable. She wrote the Woman’s Bible which stated that the Bible was patriarchal. The book also advocated for women's rights in divorce, property, reproduction, and employment.
