American singer, songwriter and social activist.

Joan has for over 60 years in various genres, though folk songs and songs of protest and social justice predominate. Baez grew up in a Quaker household and is a lifelong pacifist. Due to her Mexican heritage on her father’s side,  Joan experienced discrimination personally which contributed to her empathy and desire to help others through her song. Her voice - the “gift” of a clear lustrous soprano - has lifted up countless audiences and causes throughout her career. Baez cites Pete Seeger, Odetta and Marian Anderson as her primary musical influences as well as friend, Harry Belafonte - singer and social justice mentor. Dubbed the “Barefoot Madonna” at the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival, Baez then signed and produced many albums with Vanguard records. Baez introduced Bob Dylan to the world and toured with him many times. Joan’s voice continues to be heard at many of the pivotal human rights gathering world wide.
