Amy Tan has created novels that offer insight into the Chinese American experience, and often explore complex mother daughter relationships. Her very popular books have allowed American readers to understand and gain more perspective on Chinese Culture and “otherness.” Tan’s Bonesetter’s Daughter novel was adapted into a new opera, and her Joy Luck Club was made into a movie. Amy has also written a couple of children’s books.
